France part 7: A relaxing day in Antibes and a trip to Èze

On Wednesday, Addie had to take a mid-term, so the rest of us enjoyed a nice relaxing day by the sea.

Chad and I started out how we normally did with our trip to the cafe in the market.

It was such a gorgeous, sunny day, and Millie and Tate were enjoying sleeping in, so we went for a walk along the sea.

The view of Antibes is just so amazing – with the beautiful old buildings and the mountains in the background. No wonder Monet painted it 40 times.
Can’t get enough of these adorable little streets.
The restaurants getting ready for their customers and a view of le Marché Provençal at the end of the street

After our morning stroll, we grabbed Millie and Tate and headed out to the shore.

Port Vauban is the largest marina in the Mediterranean and Europe. It’s a beautiful harbor with the Maritime Alps creating a stunning backdrop.
It was a beautiful day for laying on the sand and reading while enjoying the breathtaking views. I think I could live that life every day and not get sick of it.

For dinner that night, we headed back to the Café Lacan for pizza. This time we tried “L’italienne.” It was the best pizza we’d ever had. Amazing!

After dinner, we went for a little walk around Antibes.

Port Vauban is gorgeous at night. I love how they light up the Fort Carré in the background with the colors of the French flag.
We enjoyed the view from our rooftop patio. They light up the tower of the Picasso museum at night.

We then enjoyed a relaxing night back at the Airbnb watching some TV before bed.

On Thursday, we had to move out of our Airbnb due to a booking issue. When we originally planned the trip, we thought all of Addie’s classes would be on Monday and Tuesday like she normally had them. So we planned to go to Paris Thursday-Saturday. However, Addie later found out that the week we were there was mid-term week, which meant her classes were all switched up. So we couldn’t leave for Paris until Friday. I tried to book our place for another night, but someone else had already taken that night, so we had to find a new place.

All packed up and posing outside our old Airbnb on our adorable little street

We had to bring our stuff to Addie’s apartment since we couldn’t check into our new place until later that afternoon.

We enjoyed another breakfast of “pain au chocolat” from our favorite cafe in the market.
After dropping our stuff off at Addie’s place, we enjoyed a relaxing morning walking around Antibes. I had to get a picture of the kids on this beautiful street.
For lunch, we found a little Lebanese restaurant. So maybe the burgers and fries weren’t Lebanese, but the sandwiches were. It was really good!

After lunch, we hopped on the train and headed for Èze, about a 45 minute train ride away.

Èze is a medieval village perched high up above the French Riviera. Once you get off the train, you have the option to do a 1-hour hike up the very steep hill to the city, or you can take the bus along a scenic route. We opted for the bus as we wanted to be able to actually enjoy the city and not be hyperventilating or passing out.

This is not my photo, it’s a stock photo. I tried to take a picture like this from outside of the village, but it was tough to get a good angle from the bus.

This is another pedestrian-only village with narrow streets and beautiful ridiculously old buildings.

We really enjoyed our time in this beautiful little village. Èze is truly a gem and a must-see if you’re ever in the area.

After taking in all of Èze, we headed back to Antibes.

Tate and Millie were tuckered out.

Once we got back to Antibes, we grabbed our luggage from Addie’s place and walked a few minutes away to our one-night Airbnb. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of it. It was nice, just much smaller than our last one. But it was close to Addie, and we got to walk along the sea to get there, so that was a bonus.

Our new Airbnb was located just a few steps away from this medieval public wash house called Lavoir de la Tourraque. Women used to meet here to wash their clothes and socialize. This is the only one in Antibes that has survived. It’s so cool seeing such ancient history right outside your door!

We stopped by the grocery store that night to grab a few things to make some dinner and then settled in for the night. The next day we would take off for Paris for a few days!
