Well, here it goes. I’m dusting off the old mom-blog. Over ten years ago I wrote about the daily ins and outs of our busy life with littles in my french-titled blog, Une Autre Mère (“another mom”). I loved the camaraderie I had with other mom-bloggers in those early stages of our kids’ lives. I made friends from other states and we enjoyed watching each others’ families grow, bonding over diapers and playdates. During nap times or after kiddos went to bed, I had time to write and read other blogs. But then the kids went to school, and I started subbing at the high school periodically. Then those periodic days turned into almost every day, and our kids kept us busy with more evening activities, later bedtimes (sometimes later than my own), and I just didn’t have the time to write anymore.
It has been over ten years since I’ve blogged. A lot happens in ten years. Toddlers grow into teenagers. Eight year olds become adults. And moms who were once relied upon for nearly everything now find themselves stepping back, watching their kids find their independence, and maybe sometimes wondering what’s next.
I’m not sure what exactly you’ll find in this blog. Maybe another mom going through the same stage of life? Sending first-borns off to college and preparing other growing children for their futures? Trying to navigate teenagers, scholarships, college visits, all while balancing our own mid-life moments? It’ll change from time to time, but for now, I hope to find those same bonds I found back in those young years. I think maybe we need each other even more now than we did back then.
